A style session with Breakout Kings' Serinda Swan

What do you get when you mix a badass character’s style with an ultra-glamour girl’s look? Breakout Kings’ hot star, Serinda Swan! We catch up with the fashionista on the set of her show to find out all of her beauty and style secrets.

When she’s not playing rebel and certified “ass-kicker” Erica Reed on Breakout Kings, this Hollywood beauty constantly stuns us on the red carpet with her knockout style. Read on to learn how she keeps her brunette locks so sleek, who her favorite designers are on and off the camera and what’s next for her character on the addictive A&E show.

SheKnows: How do you keep your skin looking so natural?

Swan: First off, thank you and second, I use this amazing line called Skin Authority — it comes with me everywhere!

SheKnows: Any beauty products you covet, and can’t live without?

Swan: My YSL Mascara. That and some Burt’s Bees Lip Balm, and I’m good for the day.

SheKnows: Do you have a specific hair routine for your sleek, brunette locks?

Swan: Besides Campbell McAuley? He’s my secret to amazing looking hair on the carpet and off (stylist to the stars)!

SheKnows: What are your favorite brands to wear off-camera?

Swan: I’m usually pretty casual, so I love Wilfred, Marc Jacobs and J Brand. But, my newest favorite staple in my wardrobe is this amazing tee line called This Shirt Helps. For every purchase you make, the brand donates a year of clean water, or saves an animal, plants three trees… it has something tangible that it donates. So next time you buy a tee and someone asks you what you did today, you can say “not much, went shopping, educated a child in Guatemala, no biggie.” I think that’s pretty remarkable.

SheKnows: Erica on Breakout Kings is a fighter and certified badass — how does her style differ from your style?

Swan: Actually it’s quite similar. We have a wonderful wardrobe department on the show, so at the beginning of the second season, I sat down with them to create a new look for Erica, which had a lot of my own style and favorite brands in it.

SheKnows: Do you incorporate any of Erica’s style into your everyday life?

Swan: Absolutely! I’m wearing her boots right now!

SheKnows: What’s your favorite designer to wear on the red carpet?

Swan: There are so many… Marchesa, Versace, Elie Saab, Oscar de la Renta…. I like the really classic looks, but also to switch it up and do something daring and bold. Actually, lately I have been wearing designers from around the world that I’ve picked up on my travels to showcase international talent. The last orange dress I wore was from Bali!

SheKnows: What’s next for Erica on the show? What’s next for you?

Swan: I’m hoping in the next season of Breakout Kings, we get to see a little more of the the story with her father, and hunting down the last man who had a hand in his death. Also, I love the daughter character, so hopefully they bring her back (oh and lots more ass kicking, I love shooting those scenes).
